Max Verstappen hilariously discussed the timing for the 2024 F1 Austrian GP sprint race with Redline, his eSports team. The Red Bull driver was not sure when the sprint race would take place on Saturday morning.

The three-time world champion continued his dominance at the Austrian GP. He was fastest in the first and only practice session and also managed to bag pole position during the sprint qualifying session. The top grid was quite competitive during the qualifying since McLaren's Lando Norris was only +0.093 seconds slower than Verstappen.

After the sprint qualifying, Max Verstappen was seen hanging out with Team Redline during their Twitch livestream. They watched the Rennsport Drivers Championship Round 2 - Road to Atlanta and also played some Call of Duty.

During that time, twitch stream presenter Luke Crane asked Verstappen whether he would directly participate in the Austrian GP's qualifying. The Red Bull F1 driver reminded that there will be a sprint race before Grand Prix qualifying.

Hilariously, however, Verstappen himself was not sure about when the sprint race would commence. He then shrugged off the discussion by saying that no one cares about the schedule.

"We have the race at 11, I think it is. I don't know man, 11...who cares," Verstappen said (4:17:21)

He initially said that it would start at 11 am, but then checked and corrected himself that it would begin at 12 pm (track time).

"Let me have a look. Oh no, it's at 12, nice!!" he added.

When Max Verstappen suggested getting rid of sprint weekends due to car setup mishaps

Back in November 2023, Max Verstappen criticized the sprint race format after Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were disqualified from the 2023 United States GP due to technical infringement.

After being disqualified, both Ferrari and Mercedes complained that, due to sprint weekends having only one practice session, teams do not get ample time to set up the car for the upcoming important sessions.

Speaking on about the matter to the media, Max Verstappen opined that sprint race weekends should be scrapped since it causes problems for teams to set up their cars. The Red Bull star explained how the work is rushed during a sprint weekend since teams only get one practice session.

“We should just get rid of the sprint weekend and then everyone can just set up their cars normally. It wouldn't have happened that we would have had a normal race weekend,” Verstappen said.
“These things only happen when you have a sprint weekend where everything is so rushed into your in-between FP1 and qualifying. From our side, I think we went a bit too conservative, but that's still better than the other way,” he added.
