Sergio Perez's drop in form has been one of the hot topics of discussion among the Red Bull Racing fanbase. However, one of the mechanics from Perez's garage defended the Mexican racer with a response to Max Verstappen's mechanic on social media.
Despite a decent start, Perez's 2024 season began spiraling downward after the Miami Grand Prix. The 34-year-old's crashes in Monaco and Azerbaijan further added to his woes in the Red Bull garage. With Perez finishing last at the Mexican Grand Prix, rumors of his imminent exit from the Austrian team have begun doing rounds.
Amid all the chaos, another controversy has surfaced in the Red Bull fan base. While answering a fan question about what Perez's side of the garage has been doing recently, Greg Reeson, a mechanic from Verstappen's side responded:
"Giving him the same tools as Max" Greg said.
However, Charlie Wilson, one of Perez's main mechanics added a savage reply, defending the #11 driver.
"Why you lying for" Charlie responded savagely.
Here's a look at a post by an F1 fan page on X with screenshots of the above-mentioned interaction from Instagram:
"Fan asks question Max Verstappen's mechanic responds Checo's mechanic dunks on his response"
This has led to many fans wondering about the current ongoings within the team. It appears that since the comments, the original fan question on Red Bull's Instagram has been deleted.
The aforementioned update was shared by a Sergio Perez fan page on X. Here's a look at the post, captioned:
"Update: RBR account deleted the original comment (Dali's) so all of Greg's comments are gone (likely why they deleted the whole comment) but Charlie's still up as of now."
Max Verstappen handed a five-second time penalty for VSC infringement after the Brazilian Sprint Race
Reigning world champion Max Verstappen has been demoted to P4 after the Sprint race at Interlagos. The Red Bull Racing driver has been handed a five-second time penalty for a Virtual Safety Car (VSC) infringement.
Verstappen began the Sprint Race in P4 behind Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. After a 16-lap battle, he managed to move ahead of the Monegasque racer. The Dutchman began charging behind the McLaren duo, only for his progress to be halted by a Virtual Safety Car on Lap 22.
Although Verstappen managed to end the race close to the McLaren of Oscar Piastri in second place, he was above the minimum time required at the end of the VSC. This move by the three-time world champion was investigated by stewards as the race ended.
After a thorough investigation, he was handed a five-second penalty for gaining an advantage under VSC. As a result, he got pushed to fourth position after the race ended.
As for the 2024 title battle, the gap between Max Verstappen and McLaren's Lando Norris has reduced to 44 points ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
