A surprising Sergio Perez and Logan Sargeant head-to-head statistic recently surfaced. After the qualifying results of the British GP, the Red Bull driver has now been out-qualified three times this season by the American driver from Williams. The statistic shows that Sargeant managed to outqualify Red Bull driver Sergio Perez more times than he outqualified his teammate Alex Albon.
At the start of the 2024 F1 season, Perez looked quite strong on the track. He qualified just behind the reigning world champion and teammate, Max Verstappen, securing second place in the first few races. After the Miami GP, however, he began to experience a major dip in performance. He started getting eliminated in the Q1 and Q2 sessions and was out-qualified by several midfield drivers as well.
Perez's form did not improve, as he was outqualified by Williams driver Logan Sargeant in the Monaco, Canadian, and British GPs. Sargeant has been struggling much more than Perez and is last in the driver standings with zero points. However, he has still managed to outqualify the Red Bull driver three times in the span of 12 races in 2024.
In the Monaco GP, Perez was unable to get out of Q1, only securing P16. On the other hand, Sargeant secured P15 for the race.
In the Canadian GP qualifying, Sargeant's teammate, Alex Albon, pushed Perez into the drop zone of Q1. The Red Bull driver started the race from P16, while Sargeant qualified P13.
Finally, in the British GP qualifying, Checo lost control of his RB20 and went into the gravel trap. This ruined his qualifying session and he only managed to secure P19, whereas Sargeant successfully got into Q2 and secured P12 for the race.
In contrast, Sargeant has managed to outqualify his teammate Albon only twice, and just in sprint qualifying sessions. The American secured a higher staring position than Albon in the Miami and Austrian GP sprint qualifying sessions.
Christian Horner on Sergio Perez's poor form in recent races
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner recently addressed Sergio Perez's poor on-track performances in recent races. Speaking to Sky Sports, he stated that Checo's first five races were competitive, while his last five races have been poor. Horner urged the Mexican to bring back the form he had exhibited in the first five races of the 2024 F1 season.
"Obviously, Sergio has had a tough spell. His first five races were very competitive. The last five have been nowhere, and we want to see Sergio from the first five back," Horner said.
"He knows that, he's aware of that, he's been working hard in the sim this week, working hard to understand where it's just not playing out for him. But what we've constantly seen with him is this resilience to be able to bounce back. We're hoping to see that very soon," he added.
After the British GP, where Sergio Perez finished P17, he currently stands in sixth place in the drivers' championship table with 118 points. Meanwhile, his teammate Max Verstappen continues to lead the table with 255 points.
