The Grove-based outfit surprised everyone last year when they finished P7 in the Constructor's Championship but have failed to replicate similar heights this year. Since the appointment of team principal James Vowles from Mercedes at the beginning of the 2023 season, they have been active in recruiting people like Pat Fry and others.

Ahead of the Austrian GP weekend, Williams F1 hired 26 new people such as former Alpine man Matt Harman as Design Director and Juan Molina from Haas as Cheif Aerodynamicist. Steve Winstanley has been appointed Chief Engineer of Composites and Structures as they look to capitalize on his vast experience, which includes a 14-year tenure with Red Bull.

Winstanley will work alongside Fabrice Moncade, who joins the team as Chief Engineer of Computing Science, having previously worked as Head of Performance Analytics at Ferrari. They all will work under Pat Fry, who has been the Chief Technical Officer of Williams F1 since last year.

On the team's official website, Fry spoke about the new appointees and said:

“Williams Racing has bold ambitions and huge momentum, and these exceptional recruits show this is a project people want to be part of. We are adding strength in depth to the enormous talent already at Grove as we build for the future.”

"Williams is investing in what it takes to win, and this is just the start as we prepare to welcome more new faces from across the grid in the months ahead.”

The mass recruitment drive will aid the Grove-based team in kickstarting deveopment under the 2026 engine regulations on the front foot and not fall behind others, as they did during the 2022 Aero regulations.

They have also extended the contract of Alex Albon for 2026 and beyond, while being in conversation to take Ferrari's departing driver Carlos Sainz away from the interests of Alpine and Audi.
