Williams F1 team would replace Logan Sargeant at the 2024 British GP this weekend with F2 driver Franco Colapinto for the FP1 session on Friday. The Williams Academy driver will get his first taste of the 2024 challenger, having previously driven for the team in the Abu Dhabi Young Driver's test last year.
Colapinto has been showing signs of progression in the junior series, having made the jump to F2 this year with MP Motorsport. The Argentine has had an impressive year thus far, winning the Imola Feature race and scoring two additional podiums in Austria and Barcelona.
As per PlanetF1, Colapinto was delighted to drive Logan Sargeant's car at Silverstone as he became the third Argentine after Juan Manuel Fangio and Carlos Ruetmann to make it to the pinnacle of motorsport. He said:
“I have so many emotions. I am extremely delighted and it’s a very important moment in my life and my career. I will be the most prepared I can; I will be doing a lot of laps in the simulator and studying the details needed to drive this year’s car.
"To be able to drive it at a track like Silverstone is a privilege, it is one of my favorite tracks and to drive it at the team’s home race means a lot. To all the Argentine fans – I hope you enjoy FP1 as much as I’m going to!" he added.
Logan Sargeant analyzes his dismal Austrian GP
Williams F1 driver Logan Sargeant stated that it was a 'tough afternoon' for him on Sunday as he finished P19, the last of the classified drivers.
As per F1.com, the American said:
“It’s been a tough afternoon. I damaged my front wing on the first lap and from there I was praying for a Safety Car that never came. I feel like the pace was okay relatively and it was a good step forward from yesterday but still a painful day.
"Generally, things are moving in the right direction, but we need to find some more pace in the car.”
The lack of performance in the main race would be a big blow for Logan Sargeant as he had managed to outqualify his teammate Alex Albon on pure pace in the Austria Sprint Qualifying and even finished ahead of him in the Sprint.
However, he once again found himself behind the Thai driver in the qualifying and was unable to make any sort of headway in the main race. The 23-year-old is yet to score a point in the 2024 season and is one of only three drivers with zero points after 11 races and three Sprints so far this year, alongside Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
