Red Bull lost their grip at the top of the Constructors' Championship and fell down to third place in the standings earlier this season. While the team's once-dominant car has lost its edge, Perez's recent performance, compared to Verstappen's, has also significantly contributed to this decline.

Despite the two-year extension RBR gave him earlier this season, Perez's performances led most fans to think that the team would replace him in 2025 to preserve its position amongst the top teams. However, F1 recently revealed a multi-year deal with Nestle, as KitKat was named the "Official F1 Chocolate Bar." Sergio Perez's picture was featured in the announcement, which suggested that the Mexican might be staying with the team.

"It was a difficult race for Checo": Red Bull boss analyzes Sergio Perez's Brazil weekend, expects to fight "hard" in Vegas

The 2024 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix was one of the most exciting races of the season so far. Max Verstappen stole the show, converting a remarkable P17 start into a stunning victory, despite the challenging conditions.

However, his teammate Sergio Perez had a difficult time getting around the track. Spinning on the first lap dropped him to the back of the grid and later, he struggled to fight in the midfield. In the end, he finished out of the points in P11.

Reviewing Perez's weekend, team principal Christian Horner acknowledged that it was a difficult race for him. However, he expressed confidence in their ability to challenge the competition at the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix.

"It was a difficult race for Checo,” Horner said. "Spinning at the beginning of the race drops him down. It was an opportunity in the constructors’ to take a big chunk out of both Ferrari and McLaren and unfortunately, we’ve not been able to capitalise on that."
"Obviously, that’s frustrating, but we’ll go away and have a look at it and come back hopefully fighting hard in Vegas," he added.

Max Verstappen comfortably leads the Drivers' World Championship with 393 points in his bag. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez is down in eighth position with just 151 points to his credit.
