Max Verstappen recently spoke about staying calm after his collision with Lando Norris at the 2024 F1 Austrian GP. He also said that he understood why Norris's emotions and frustration ran high after their intense battle.

Verstappen and Norris were battling it out for the race victory at the Austrian GP on June 30. With the newer medium tires, the McLaren driver was applying pressure on the three-time world champion who was holding the lead during the latter stages of the race. They passed each other multiple times, providing onlookers with a fantastic show.

Eventually, at Turn 3 on Lap 64, their cars collided, resulting in punctures for both of them. Lando Norris was forced to withdraw from the race after suffering damage to his front axle and wings, while Max Verstappen managed to pit for fresh tires and finish P5.

After the race, both drivers were upset by the outcome of the race. The McLaren driver said that if Verstappen did not admit his mistake, he would lose a lot of respect for the three-time world champion. On the other hand, Verstappen chose not to get into the details of the clash and simply expressed his disappointment.

A week after the race, during the British GP, Max Verstappen once again spoke to the media and explained how he remained calm right after the clash. The Red Bull star added that though he understood that emotions can run high after an intense battle, a driver should not blurt out everything he is thinking on camera.

"I understand it all and because of that I also thought to myself of just let it cool down. That's for the best. I understand being emotional and being disappointed of course. Of course, I was also disappointed with what happened in Austria, but of course in the end you don't have to shout everything on camera right away," Verstappen said. (via GPBlog)

Lando Norris reflects on his clash with Max Verstappen in Austria

After a week, during the British GP, Lando Norris recalled his intense on-track battle with Max Verstappen in Austria. The McLaren driver feels that Verstappen does not need to apologize for his aggressive racing style.

Speaking in the press conference before the British GP, the 24-year-old explained that he was not too happy with some comments he made in the media pen right after the Austrian GP.

"Honestly, I don't think he needed to apologise. I think some of the things I said in the pen after the race were just more just because I was frustrated at the time. A lot of adrenaline, a lot of just emotions. And I probably said some things I didn't necessarily believe in, especially later on in the week. It was tough," Norris said.
"He didn't doesn't need to… I don't expect an apology from him. I don't think he should apologise. I thought it was as a review, good racing. At times, maybe very close to the edge but like we said we've spoken about it we've talked about it and we're both happy to go racing again," he added.

After the Austrian GP, Max Verstappen continues to dominate the drivers' championship table with 237 points, while Lando Norris is in second place with 156 points.

Verstappen will enter the British GP race as the defending champion while Norris finished second last year.
