Nico Rosberg might not have had as good a season as he would have expected, but is still hoping to finish among the big names in the F1 circuit. He finished in fifth in the recent Singapore Grand Prix, and we had a chat with the Mercedes driver about his race, and his aims for the rest of the season:
You satisfied with your fifth position in Singapore?
Yeah, I finished quite well after starting in 10th. Things worked fine for me, and thankfully I was able to earn some good points today. My team did a fantastic job.
Did Michael Schumacher‘s exit bother you?
I heard it on the team radio. It was pretty unfortunate. We are a team, so it does bother me a little. But then, we have no time to think while on the track.
It was a pretty dramatic race today with a number of crashes. Do you think the tracks are tough here?
Oh, very. I think Singapore is the toughest race of the season. The track is really deadly, and the heat adds to it. It drains you out completely, both mentally and physically. Also not to forget, it’s the only night race in the calendar.
How do you, as an F1 driver, prepare for the physical extremities of a race? Give an insight into your diet and other preparatory routines before raceday.
I like to work out in the gym and then get some sleep. When you are racing in places like Singapore, you need to make sure your fitness levels are pretty high.
Do you think you can finish the season as a World Champion?
I am working hard towards it. There are still races left, and I am in the fray along with the others, so let’s see if things turn out good for me.
We have heard that you guys are using a new car?
Not new cars, but new parts.
Oh, apologies! What new parts then?
We got new exhausts, and are working on the development of aerodynamics with the exhaust gases pointing them in a certain direction so that we get hot air at the back of the car, which in turn creates downforce to help us go faster through the corners. It is of great potential, and I am sure that we are going to benefit a lot from this in the upcoming races.
Are you looking forward to the Indian Grand Prix?
As of now, we are focussing on the race in Japan. But yeah, it’s going to be an exciting one. I already shot an ad for it!
