On this day in Formula One history

On this day in Formula One seven grand prix events happened with six of them being Italian grand prix at Monza were held on 7th September 1952, 1958, 1969, 1975, 1986 and 1997 whereas Belgian grand prix happened in 2008.

07/09/1952 - Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 8 of 8 and the race had 80 laps to finish with 24 drivers starting the race and Alberto Ascari of Scuderia Ferrari won the race starting from pole position. Ascari also won the championship managing 6 race wins and 6 podium finishes.

07/09/1958 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was a round 10 of 11 with 70 laps to finish and 21 drivers starting the race. Tony Brooks of the team Vandervell Products Ltd won the race while pole sitter Stirling Moss retired with a grearbox failure. Brooks finished third in title race with 24 points from 3 wins. Phil Hill set a fastest lap of the race.

07/09/1969 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 8 of 11 with 68 laps to the chequered flag and Sir Jackie Stewart won the race for Matra International team starting from third on the grid. Pole sitter Jochen Rindt of Gold Leaf Team Lotus managed second place. Jean-Pierre Beltoise of the team Matra International set the fastest lap.

07/09/1975 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 14 with 52 laps to chequered flag and 26 drivers starting the race. Clay Reggazoni won the race out-pacing Scuderia Ferrari team-mate Niki Lauda who won the drivers’ title with 4 race wins, 8 poles and 7 podium finishes. Clay Reggazoni set the fastest lap of the race.

07/09/1986 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 16 with 51 laps to chequered flag and 27 drivers starting the race. Nelson Piquet of team Canon Williams Honda won the race starting 6th on the grid while pole sitter Teo Fabi of the team Benetton Formula retired with puncture. Fabi set the fastest lap of the race after securing last pole position of the career.

07/09/1997 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 17 with 53 laps to the chequered flag. David Coulthard of West McLaren Mercedes won the race starting 6th on the grid while pole sitter Jean Alesi who achieved last pole of the career finished in second place. Coulthard’s team-mate Mika Hakkinen set the fastest lap of the race.

07/09/2008 – Belgian grand prix:

The grand prix at Spa-Francorchamps was round 13 of 18 with 44 laps to the chequered flag. Felipe Massa of Scuderia Ferrari won the race starting 2nd on the grid while pole sitter Lewis Hamilton finished in 3rd place. Massa’s team-mate Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest lap.
