On this day in Formula One history

On this day, 09 September, five grand prix events were held in Formula One, all being Italian grand prix at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza in 1973, 1979, 1984, 1990 and 2007. McLaren won the three of these events while Team Lotus and Ferrari one each.

09/09/1973 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 15 with 55 laps to chequered flag and 25 drivers starting the race. Ronnie Peterson of Team Lotus won the race starting from the pole position. Jackie Stewart set the fastest lap of the race in Elf Team Tyrrell car.

09/09/1979 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 15 with 50 laps to chequered flag and 24 drivers starting the race. Jody Scheckter of Ferrari won the race starting 3rd on the grid while pole sitter Jean Pierre Jabouille racing for Team Renault Elf retired with engine failure. Clay Reggazoni set the fastest lap of the race. The win was last for Jody Schecket.

09/09/1984 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 14 of 16 with 51 laps to chequered flag and 26 drivers starting the race. Niki Lauda of McLaren won the race starting 4th on the grid while pole sitter Nelson Piquet retired with engine failure. Niki Lauda set the fastest lap of the race.

09/09/1990 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 12 of 16 with 53 laps to chequered flag and 26 drivers starting the race. Ayerton Senna of McLaren won the race starting from pole position. Senna set the fastest lap of the race. He won the drivers’ title with 72 points from 6 wins and 10 podium finishes.

09/09/2007 – Italian grand prix:

The grand prix was round 13 of 17 with 53 laps to chequered flag and 22 drivers starting the race. Fernando Alonso of McLaren won the race starting from pole position and setting the fastest lap of the race.
