Formula One tyre supplier Pirelli has come under the scanner after Mark Webber joined Fernando Alonso in a verbal attack against the company.
Alonso criticized the quality of the tyres on Saturday saying that they are very on the edge. Meanwhile Webber said that Pirelli is not concerned about the driver’s safety after the Australian’s tyre was punctured by the debris of Sergio Perez’s tyre failure in Korean GP.
“I think I got a Pirelli puncture from a Pirelli tyre. The drivers aren’t super important (to Pirelli) — it is what other people want,” Webber said.
Pirelli boss Paul Hembery hit back at Alonso’s claim by saying that the Spaniard should learn from Sebastian Vettel on how to use the tyres properly.
“I can only suggest he goes to ask the soon-to-be four time champion how to get the best from the same tyres,” Hembery said.
Vettel, running on the same tyres maintained his winning streak in Korea while Webber was forced to retire.
