Formula 1 team Mercedes, which has been banned by the FIA from taking part in the Young Driver Test, reportedly will get access to some of the data from the test. Tyre manufacturer Pirelli, which was Mercedes’ partner in the infamous ‘Secret Test’ scandal, is said to have agreed to share their data with Mercedes.
“The teams will have a very clear tyre test programme. They have to run what we are telling them to run. Mercedes do have a lot of data from the tyre from last year in terms of the way it will affect aero and set-up,” said Pirelli motorsport director Paul Hembery.
Former World champion Lewis Hamilton, however, does not seem to agree. The Mercedes driver has said his team will be at a disadvantage due to the ban.
“I don’t know if people fully appreciate how big a negative it is for us not to do the test. We are going to go to Hungary when other people have gone and tested (the new tyres with) different ride-heights, different pressures, got their car ready for a long run so they arrive ready,” Hamilton said.
