Pirelli has come under fire for their less than perfect tyres, during the four-stop Spanish Grand Prix, in which several drivers suffered tyre delaminations.
Pirelli had initially announced that the revised tyres would be raced in Montreal, but now, as a remedial measure to quell the escalating row, they have decided to test the rubber first. They plan to test out the revised tyres for the first time at Silverstone by the end of June.
The revised tyres, which will incorporate Kevlar instead of a steel belt, will be run in Friday’s two practice sessions. Each driver will be given two sets of the new-spec medium compound to evaluate.
Pirelli has also gone on the record to state that the aim of introducing the new tyre is to prevent any instances of the tread detaching itself from the structure.
