Fernando Alonso won the 24 hours Le Mans and is just 1 win away from completing the Triple Crown of Motorsport Racing.

Current Driver Lineup for 2018:

Fernando Alonso ( ESP )

Stoffel Vandoorne ( BEL )

Now we are talking money. Fernando Alonso was promised a championship contender car in 2015 when he joined McLaren Honda. With no hopes of winning the F1 championship with McLaren, Fernando planned a full WEC season with Toyota this year. Now that he has won Le Mans 24 hours this year, he is running after the elusive Triple Crown of Motorsport Racing (Monaco Grand Prix, Indy 500, Le Mans).

Fernando Alonso announced his retirement on 14th August, 2018 from F1 as he plans to look at other options which probably includes complete the triple crown. He's also competing in the WEC super season, which will end at Le Mans next year.

With Alonso’s retirement, McLaren signed another Spaniard to replace him, Carlos Sainz Jr. Carlos who is currently driving for the Renault Works team, is pleased to be replacing Fernando and driving for McLaren which was his dream as a child.

McLaren though have a difficult decision to choose between Stoffel and the young Lando Norris to complete their lineup for next year. It is likely that one of them would be joining Toro Rosso as part of the deal to get Toro Rosso Engineer, James Key, to join the McLaren team as soon as possible, as they try to make a comeback again next year.

It is very likely that next year McLaren will have a driver lineup consisting of no F1 Champion champion since 2006.

Expected Driver Lineup for 2019:

Carlos Sainz Jr. ( ESP )

Lando Norris ( GBR )
