The 2024 F1 season has been full of twists and turns and is a far cry from the dominant 2023 season delivered by Red Bull and Max Verstappen. Although the season started on a similar note as last year with the three-time world champion winning six of the first seven races, in the last eight races, we have seen six different winners.

Although the Dutch driver has been the standout driver this year as well, the competition has gotten closer, with the top four teams all in contention for race wins on most weekends.

Below are the F1 drivers ranked in terms of laps led in the 2024 season:

#1 Max Verstappen - Red Bull F1

Max Verstappen is currently leading the Drivers championship by 78 points and has scored 277 points from the 14 races and three Sprints thus far. The Red Bull driver has managed to win almost half of the races and won all three Sprints.

The 26-year-old also leads the field in terms of laps as he has led 448 laps, which is 53% of the entire laps till now.

#2 Lando Norris

The McLaren driver has arguably been the quickest driver in terms of pure performance since the Miami GP but has failed to capitalize in terms of race wins. He is P2 in the championship with 199 points but has gotten one win thus far.

Lando Norris also narrowly edges Charles Leclerc in the stat for laps led in the 2024 season thus far with 95, which is only 11.2% of the total laps.

#3 Charles Leclerc

As aforementioned, Charles Leclerc trails Lando Norris in both the driver's championship and laps led despite winning the same number of races as the British driver.

The Ferrari driver has been marginally faster than his teammate Carlos Sainz and has led 88 laps so far, which comes to 10.4%.

#4 Carlos Sainz

Carlos Sainz started his final season with the Ferrari F1 team quickly out of the blocks as he was firmly the faster driver and got three podiums in the first four races which included a race win in Australia.

But his advantage has now diminished which is reflected in his head-to-head with Leclerc and also in the driver's championship. The Spanish driver has led 68 laps thus far in the season.

#5 George Russell

Similar to Sainz, Mercedes driver George Russell was also the faster of the two between him and Lewis Hamilton in the first half a dozen races. But since the upgrade introduced by the team in Barcelona, the seven-time world champion has slowly clawed back the advantage over his younger compatriot.

That said, Russell still leads in one metric from the F1 legend, with 61 laps led in the season, culminating in his win in Austria.

#6 Oscar Piastri

Oscar Piastri has quietly become one of the most consistent drivers on the grid as he always makes his presence felt in the races as well as in qualifying.

The Aussie driver's progress has been reflected in his results as well, as he became the newest race winner in F1 in Hungary. He has led 55 laps so far.

#7 Lewis Hamilton

After a slow start to the season, Lewis Hamilton has bounced back tremendously and became the only driver apart from Max Verstappen to win two races this year in Silverstone and Spa.

But despite his recent wins, the 39-year-old has only led 30 race laps in the 2024 F1 season owing to inheriting the lead late at the British GP and many changes at the top at Spa.
