As the F1 paddock enjoys the summer break, it is a great time for us fans to look back at how the 2024 season has been. How have the drivers performed? What kind of a job have the teams done?

In this feature, we're taking a look at the entire F1 grid. How do the 20 drivers stack up at the midway point of the 2024 season?

To find out, we've taken the average of the driver ratings for all races and then arranged it accordingly. So, without further ado, let's get to it.

2024 F1 driver rankings at mid-season

#20 Guanyu Zhou (Avg rating: 5.43)

At the bottom, we have Zhou Guanyu. The Chinese F1 driver has been off-color this season and has not performed at the level he would have hoped. He might be in his last season in the sport as slots start to close.

#19 Sergio Perez (Avg rating: 5.54)

Sergio Perez is not as bad a driver as his current ranking suggests. The Mexican has struggled to come to terms with the Red Bull and keep up with Max Verstappen at the same time.

The under-pressure Mexican finds himself in 19th at the midway point of the season.

#18 Logan Sargeant (Avg rating: 5.54)

Logan is arguably in his last F1 season. The American has not had the kind of impact many would have expected from him. He finds himself in 18th place on the rankings.

#17 Lance Stroll (Avg rating: 5.82)

Lance has had a few bright spots this season, but at the same time, there have been a few poor races as well. Overall, he still finds himself in P17.

#16 Kevin Magnussen (Avg rating: 6.00)

Kevin Magnussen has lost his seat at Haas for 2025 and one of the reasons has been his deficit to teammate Nico Hulkenberg. The Danish driver has struggled to keep up, hurting his overall prospects.

#15 Valtteri Bottas (Avg rating: 6.07)

Valtteri is yet to secure a seat in 2025 and has been limited in what he can show in the Sauber. The driver finds himself in P15 on the rankings.

#14 Daniel Ricciardo (Avg rating: 6.36)

Daniel Ricciardo would have hoped for a lot more this season but that has certainly not been the case. The driver has had a few good and a few average moments this season. He finds himself in P14 in the pecking order.

#13 Pierre Gasly (Avg rating: 6.58)

Pierre Gasly has had a few races where things have been impressive. Overall, however, he's been a step behind teammate Esteban Ocon this F1 season.

#12 Fernando Alonso (Avg rating: 6.93)

Fernando Alonso has not had what one would call a vintage season. There's almost a sense of the Spaniard dropping his head once Aston Martin started dropping away this season. It will be interesting to see what he's going to achieve in the second half.

#11 Alex Albon (Avg rating: 6.96)

Alex Albon has been the benchmark at Williams this season and has a few points to show for it. The young driver will be looking to continue his form and climb the rankings in the second half of the season.

#10 Yuki Tsunoda (Avg rating: 7.07)

Yuki has been solidly impressive this season. The Japanese F1 driver has already secured his future with RB and it will be interesting to see how he performs in the upcoming races.

#9 Lewis Hamilton (Avg rating: 7.11)

Lewis Hamilton's 2024 F1 season started on the backfoot but his resurgence has been impressive. The Mercedes driver is now in the top 10 and will be looking to make further strides soon.

#8 Esteban Ocon (Avg rating: 7.32)

Esteban Ocon has at times dragged the Alpine to places where it wasn't supposed to be. The driver has had an impressive season under the radar and will be looking to continue the momentum in the second half.

#7 Oscar Piastri (Avg rating: 7.39)

Oscar is slowly coming into his own in F1, and it shows on the standings as well. The Australian is ironing out the errors and problems in terms of race pace and will be a factor on the grid very soon.

#6 Carlos Sainz (Avg rating: 7.42)

Carlos Sainz started the season with a bang but since then has been a solid and consistent performer, even though he is maybe a step behind his teammate on performance.

#5 Nico Hulkenberg (Avg rating: 7.64)

Nico Hulkenberg has been a surprise for the onlookers because of his ability to get points in the Haas consistently. The German finds himself in the top 5.

#4 George Russell (Avg rating: 7.64)

George Russell might find himself dropping away on the championship standings due to luck but the Mercedes driver has been brilliant overall. If he wins a couple more F1 races this season, then it won't come as a surprise.

#3 Charles Leclerc (Avg rating: 7.86)

Charles Leclerc's season peaked in Monaco, and since then he's been trying to crawl his way back into contention. The driver has been limited a bit by Ferrari's performance, but overall, he has been very impressive.

#2 Lando Norris (Avg rating: 8.25)

Lando Norris might have gained a lot of haters recently, and he might have lost at least a couple of wins this season but it's hard not to reward his consistency. Once we ignore the bluster and see the numbers, Lando has been a step behind Max but that's about it. No one else comes close.

#1 Max Verstappen (Avg rating: 8.39)

At the top, we have Max Verstappen. The Dutch driver has not been as sublime as 2023, but still, if there is one driver who continues to be the benchmark, it's him.
