Red Bull Racing have chosen Daniel Ricciardo to be Sebastian Vettel‘s teammate in the next season.
The Aussie driver replaces compatriot Mark Webber, who will retire at the end of the current season to race sports cars for German manufacturer Porsche. Red Bull confirmed this move on their own Servus TV channel following weeks of speculation on who would land the team’s second driving seat. Ricciardo will make the switch from Red Bull’s junior team Toro Rosso.
There had been speculation on Kimi Raikkonen of Lotus and Ferrari‘s Fernando Alonso to grab the seat, which has now gone to Ricciardo.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said “Ricciardo was very talented, committed, has great attitude and in the end it was a very logical choice”.
