Red Bull has been fined €30,000 for the unsafe release of Mark Webber‘s car which caused an injury to a cameraman.
The team released Webber when his right rear wheel was not fitted properly, with the wheel detaching itself and striking the FOM cameraman in the pit lane. Having reviewed the incident after the race, the FIA fined Red Bull and said the result of the offence led to the increased amount.
‘The team released car 2 [Webber] before all wheels were safely fitted and the right rear wheel came off as the car left the pit stop position,” the stewards decision read. “The wheel passed four teams and struck a camera operator causing injury.”
Force India was also fined for an unsafe pit release, with the team having to pay €5,000 for releasing Paul di Resta‘s car in to the path of the pitting Jean-Eric Vergne.
