Red Bull will be forced to run a completely revised floor and diffusser in the Canadian grand prix as FIA has deemed it’s design illegal.
The team have been running new floor design since Bahrain, but many teams, notably Ferrari, Mercedes and Mclaren, were unhappy with the Red Bull’s design in Monaco. Following allegations by different teams, FIA conducted an investigation and found that the floor does not comply with current regulations.
The Red Bull team will be allowed to keep the wins in Bahrain and Monte-Carlo, but will have to run a new floor design in Canada. Prior to Bahrain, we saw the Red Bull team struggling with various problems. So the team brought a new floor design to Bahrain, which did solve their problems as Sebastian Vettel stormed to victory in Bahrain and Mark Webber in Monte Carlo. So, with the team forced to change their design, we may see a struggling Red Bull in the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix.
It is understood that Red Bull are not going to contest the ruling and is likely to modify the car prior to Canadian Grand Prix.
Explanation of Red Bull floor design:
Red Bull RB-8′s floor has fully enclosed holes located just in front of the rear wheels. These holes reduce the drag that is created due to the air passing over the rear wheels and so they basically stabilise the air flow. The rules state that “any parts lying on the reference and step planes should have solid, hard and continuous surfaces under all circumstances”.
