Silverstone - Following Mark Webber‘s decision to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the year, World Constructors Champions Red Bull thanked him for his contribution to the team for seven seasons.

The Australian joined the team in 2007 and during his stay, the 36-year-old achieved nine wins, 35 podiums and 11 pole positions. The team also bagged the constructors’ championship for three consecutive years (2010-12) where Webber played an important part in their success.

“I am sure Mark thought long and hard before making what has no doubt been a very difficult decision. His achievements in Formula 1 are extensive and I am sure he will continue to push hard and build on that record until the end of the season,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said Thursday in a statement.

“We support Mark’s decision, he has been an excellent addition to the team since joining us in 2007 and we wish him all the best in the next stage of his career.”

The statement also added that the decision on who will replace Webber will not be made until later in the season.
