Red Bull has been advised to put Sergio Perez 'out of his misery' by Ralf Schumacher. The comments came after the Mexican had another disastrous qualifying that saw him crash out in Q1. This was the second weekend in a row where this has happened with Perez.

The unfortunate thing about all of this is that the Mexican already seems on his last legs in terms of receiving grace and patience from Red Bull. The driver's form has been poor ever since McLaren brought its upgrade in Miami. Post-Miami, the best result for Sergio Perez has been P7.

As a result, the driver has dropped down the championship standings. He finds himself in P6 right now, and the Mercedes duo in P7 and P8 are not too far behind. This weekend in Hungary was supposed to be the one where Perez found his groove and showed some level of confidence.

After the crash, the space for excuses has shrunk even more. Talking to Sky Germany, 6-time F1 race winner Ralf Schumacher said that it was time for Red Bull to put Perez 'out of his misery'. He said,

“I don't know how long Red Bull will continue to look at this and do nothing. I don't think it makes sense anymore. And he [Perez] knows that himself. He is now starting from behind again.”

He added,

“The damage, we don't even need to talk about that. Red Bull has so many drivers behind. This has to end. He should really be put out of his misery. I'm sorry for that. It's also a catastrophe for him personally."

Sergio Perez looking forward to Sunday to make amends

Sergio Perez looked despondent when talking to the media about the crash. The Mexican said that he had once again let the team down. The driver did have hope that he could turn things around on Sunday and make amends. He told F1TV:

"This is a difficult one to digest, track conditions were tricky, but the track was getting better as the runs progressed and unfortunately on the entry I clipped the curb and became a passenger. I know I let my team down once again and the most important thing is to recover quickly from today."

He added,

"You run out of words to say but you have to stick with the positives, I am trying my best to get out of this difficult moment, there are things I can control and things I cannot. Today I messed up but tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity."

The race in Hungary might just be a do-or-die situation for Perez as he tries to find results that could help him stay beyond the summer break at Red Bull.
