Michael Schumacher has marked his first podium finish since his return to Formula 1, by finishing third in the European Grand Prix last weekend. According to him, this was a great answer to all the critics that had their complaints about the driver and his Mercedes team.
Schumacher: “The point is that it is a beautiful feeling; not only being on the podium, but the way it has happened. It was not at all expected. All weekend I predicted this to be a difficult one for us and it started to be difficult in qualifying; mainly because of my own mistakes and to recover from where we are getting to third position is just awesome.”
“The team and I have been criticized here and there, particularly lately and this is the best way to answer criticism; to go back and deliver as we did. Therefore I am proud, thankful and very excited.”
Schumacher’s last podium visit was back in 2006 and in a minor error it was shown the seven-time World Champion had not been on the podium for a long time; when assembling to go on the podium after the European race, the Mercedes driver seemed to have lost his way; asking his fellow drivers where to go. Hopefully he will be able to get familiar with the top spots again this season!
