Michael Schumacher has decided to make way for Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes, who will leave McLaren at the end of the season.
The Brit has been at the Silverstone based team throughout his racing career, but it seems that he will now be joining Mercedes, once his current contract with McLaren ends this season.
Mercedes have offered him a 3-year deal worth up to £60 million, including performances-related bonuses. But the bigger attraction for Hamilton will be the chance to work with Ross Brawn, the man responsible for all 7 of Schumacher’s World titles.
Some reports add that the engine change coming into effect in 2014, and Mercedes being one of the suppliers, could have influenced the decision.
Sergio Perez, meanwhile, has been signed from Sauber as Hamilton’s replacement.
Reports had earlier linked with a move to Ferrari, but it seems now that McLaren have moved quickly to sign a suitable replacement for Hamilton.
