Lewis Hamilton has taken pole for 2012 Spanish Grand Prix. Pastor Maldanado lapped his Williams in a surprise second with Fernando Alonso in third. While Fernando Alonso will be sitting happy on second row of the grid, his teammate Felipe Massa will languish down in seventeenth place after a disastrous qualifying for the Brazillian.
Behind Alonso came the Lotus duo of Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen in fourth and fifth places respectively. Both the lotus cars will be the ones to watch in the race as they have shown great long run pace on heavy fuel loads during the practice sessions. Sauber Team continued their good run of form with both the saubers making into Q3. Sadly, Kamui Kobayashi had a mechanical problem during his inlap in Q2 meaning he didn’t get to set a time for Q3, he will start tenth. His teammate Sergio Perez did get a good lap in and will be lining up on third row of the grid in P6.
Behind Sergio comes a trail of Germans with Nico Rosberg in seventh, Sebastian Vettel in eigth and Michael Schumacher in ninth place respectively. Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher didn’t set any time for Q3 as they opted to save their tyres for the race.
Q2(qualifying session 2) saw some surprises with Jenson Button and Mark Webber not making into Q3. Jenson Button lines up on sixth row of grid in P11. Alongside him will be Mark Webber. He will be folowed by the Force India duo of Paul di Resta and Nico Hulkenberg in 13th and 14th places respectively. Following the Force India duo are Jean Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo in 15th and 16th places respectively.
Q3 saw Bruno Senna not making into Q2 after a spin during his final lap. Behind him came the usual backmarkers, the Caterham duo of Vitaly petrov and Heikki Kovalinen who will line up in 18th and 19th places respectively. They are followed in by the two Marrusia’s of Charles Pic and Timo Glock. Pedro De la Rosa will line up in 23rd place for the HRT While Narain Karthikeyan will have to negotiate with the stewards to let him race after not making into the 107% time of 1m 28.363s.
