Gerhard Berger, who had 50% stake in Toro Rosso, has said that only a combined effort from Jean Todt and Bernie Ecclestone can make the Formula One sustainable.
“The time is now. In Formula One, the old adage ‘too many cooks spoil the broth’ is more and more true. Previously President Max Mosley and Bernie Ecclestone worked as a unit. Today we have in Jean Todt and Ecclestone two chefs who have different tastes and different spices,” said Berger in an interview with the Bild.
Several teams in the Formula One scene have already highlighted their concern over the growing cost of competing in the competition, which is due to rise again next season.
“The rules must be clear and sustainable and cannot be permanently changing. In football one could also make the field bigger, smaller, allow 15 players, 10 players, make the goal bigger, smaller. But they don’t, Football is easy to understand, Formula One is not,” he added.
The Austrian former F1 driver also said that the budget cap is inevitable but not as easy as it sounds and he also said that it is up to Todt and Ecclestone to find a solution.
