For an F1 driver, racing in their home country is a special feeling. Most spectators present at the track support cheer for them. Furthermore, drivers themselves feel proud for making a mark in the country's history as athletes.

In the past, several F1 drivers have dominated in their home GPs by winning it multiple times. Here is a list of F1 drivers who have the best track record on their home soil.

Ranking the top five F1 drivers based on their home race record

#5 Max Verstappen - Dutch GP - 3 wins

At fifth comes the current F1 world champion, Max Verstappen. As of now, the Red Bull star has won three races in the Dutch GP. The sport returned to the Netherlands in 2021 when many countries were still struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, Verstappen has been winning the Dutch GP.

The next race at Zandvoort is about to take place in a week's time on August 25, 2024. If the Dutchman manages to win yet another race win, he would equal his best home race win tally with several other drivers in the sport's history.

#4 Michael Schumacher - German GP - 4 wins

Michael Schumacher stands in fourth place when it comes to best home race record. The Ferrari legend won four German GPs in his long and illustrious career. These race wins came in 1995, 2002, 2004, and 2006. The first two seasons in which he won at Hockenheim were the seasons in which he also clinched the world championships.

It is worth mentioning that apart from officially winning the German GP four times, Schumacher also won the European GP five times, which took place in Nurburgring, Germany.

#3 Jim Clark - British GP - 5 wins

Jim Clark comes in third when it comes to dominating at his home GP. The two-time world champion won five races in the British GP. In the first two British GPs of his career in 1960 and 1961, he had a poor performance and ended up in P16 and at DNF, respectively.

In 1962, however, Clark had a great performance and clinched his first-ever home race win at Silverstone. He won four consecutive British GP starting with that win, from 1962 to 1965. His fifth home race win came in 1967.

#2 Alain Prost - French GP - 6 wins

Alain Prost won six French GPs during his time in F1. The Frenchman dominated the grid at his home race, especially in the latter stages of his career. When he first joined the sport in 1980, he had to retire from his first French GP due to transmission issues. However, his first home race win came in his second year with the Equipe Renault Elf team, despite several retirements throughout the season.

Prost then won another French GP in 1983 but experienced a four-year drought after that. Following that, the four-time world champion won three consecutive French GPs in 1988, 1989 and 1990. His last home race win was in 1993, which was also his last year in the sport.

#1 Lewis Hamilton - British GP - 9 wins

Lewis Hamilton stands on top when it comes to most wins on home soil. The seven-time world champion has clinched a whopping nine British GP victories. He arrived in F1 in 2007 with McLaren and instantly stood on the podium for his first home race by securing P3.

In his first championship run in 2008, Hamilton won his first home race around Silverstone but then suffered a five-year race win drought at home. His second home race win came in 2014, in his first season with Mercedes. From there, Lewis Hamilton began his era of dominance in the sport, winning several F1 titles. Along the way, he also collected British GP wins.

Most recently, he won at Silverstone in 2024, ending a 945-day overall race win drought.
