Top Formula One teams have come out to the rescue of Pirelli after they revealed their willingness to aid the tyre manufactures on the 2014 testing plans.
Pirelli earlier warned that it will pull out of the sport if any extra assistance is not provided for their testing plans since the new season will be having higher torque demands and new V6 turbo engines. But will now receive a confidence boost with the backing of the teams.
“If it doesn’t cost a penny, yes. We could support this,” said Lotus team Principal Eric Boullier.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff said that the teams should support the tyre suppliers in the best way possible.
“We need to support them and try to give them the mileage. It is a safety issue and it is only through safety they can decide what type of tyre compounds they need for next year. So we are prepared to support them if any test is needed before the beginning of the season,” he said.
Meanwhile, McLaren has already agreed to support the testing plans and will begin the testing at Vallelunga next month.
