Toro Rosso drivers not friends nor enemies

F1 Testing in Barcelona - Day Two

Jean-Eric Vergne (L) and Daniel Ricciardo

Toro Rosso drivers, Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo, are no longer friends with each other, owing to competition of being in the same team.

The two drivers were close friends, but after joining the same F1 team, their friendship started to slowly fade away. In a recent interview, Vergne has said “I don’t know if it’s because we are in F1 or he thinks he has definitely beaten me that we cannot have any relationship, but, no, we don’t see each other away from the track and we are not friends.” He went on to say “I don’t care about going on holiday with my team-mate. I have my friends and I have enough of them and I don’t need any more.”

But he believes that when it comes to work and helping the team, the two drivers are able to put aside their differences because they have a good working relationship.

Although the two very competitive drivers are rivals, Daniel Ricciardo tried to make it clear that they are not enemies. The Australian has said “We’ve never come to blows or anything like that. There’s never been a moment which has separated the friendship – it’s just grown apart with competition.” He says that this sort of rivalry is very common among team mates in any team, because they are just competing for the top spot in the team.

“So I think it’s good that we keep our distance. We’re very competitive and that’s how it should be.” said the Australian.
