Red Bull Principal Christian Horner has said that Sebastian Vettel could have won by a bigger margin in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Vettel finished the race thirty seconds ahead of his nearest rival which itself is a big margin in the sport. However, Horner believes that Vettel could’ve capped the win with a much better time.
“If he was pushed he could have maybe even doubled that margin. The pace he had in hand was quite remarkable. The level he has reached is quite phenomenal, it’s just stunning. He seems to have found a real understanding with these tyres, and a real sensitive feel for what he needs to do to extract a lap time,” Horner said.
Vettel will be now looking to equal Michael Schumacher’s record of thirteen victories in a season by winning the last two GPs. Horner added that the German has mastered a perfect style for the Pirelli tyres while others are struggling to adapt.
“He doesn’t excite the car too much, he doesn’t create wheelspin, understeer or armfuls of oversteer. His inputs are very small, and he is very sensitive to where he needs to push,” he said.
Vettel is currently at the top of the championship with a 130 point lead and his individual haul of 347 points is more than the points earned by the Mercedes team who is second in the constructors’ championship.
