Three-time world drivers’ champion Sebastian Vettel admitted that he can finally breathe a sigh of relief after finally clinching the Canadian Grand Prix at the at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve on Sunday.
This was also the first time Red Bull Racing won the race in Montreal as the German took the chequered flag from pole position in an all but perfect race.
Vettel admitted that he had a little bit of trouble on the super-soft tyre at the start of the race but did not feel it was critical.
“I had a very good start that was important and we were able to really go with the car,” he said.
“Obviously on the super-soft we saw the tyres were falling apart but I think we were as good as everybody else so I was able to build the gap and then keep that gap.
“At some stages we had a full pit-stop in hand and it was easier then to control the gap. But it was a great race with great pit stops by the team.
“It was a very important race for us to win and finally we’ve got it off the list so I’m very proud of that.”
