Mark Webber has said that he is having a good season so far, but that his future with Formula 1 racing team Red Bull will depend on his results at the end of this season. Last year the Australian driver signed a one-year contract for 2012. Currently he sits only nine points behind the leader Lewis Hamilton.
“I think I’m driving very well this year,” Webber said. “There are obviously a lot of drivers who are looking at Red Bull but you have to ask yourself if the team really wants the change. For me, it depends on this year’s results because they’ve been very inconsistent; until I won in Monaco, I hadn’t been on the podium.”
Webber is aware that the decision is out of his hands. Even though he has a good feeling about his current results, he knows that Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Éric Vergne are eying up to the Red Bull position as well. “Let’s see what happens. I can only control what I do and I think I’ve been doing my job very well so far,” Mark said. “It will be down to Christian (Horner, Team Principal), Adrian (Newey, Chief Technical Officer), Helmut (Marko, head of the Red Bull driver programme) and Dietrich (Mateschitz, owner of Red Bull).”
Mark Webber is currently driving his 11th F1 season. There is a rumor that Webber has been in contact with Ferrari, however the Australian denies this. “I have no offers from Ferrari,” he says. “People have been talking about it but that was before Felipe (Massa) had a good weekend in Monaco. If all of the rumors were true, Ferrari would need about eight cars on the grid next year and not two. They may or may not change Felipe but they haven’t said anything to me.”
