F1 Grand Prix of Bahrain - Practice

Formula 1 heads to the heart of the Eifel Mountains for the German Grand Prix. With exploding tyres at the last race in Silverstone and drivers threatening to abandon the race, the historic Nurburgring is still very much on the forefront of everyone’s minds.

As part of its race-share agreement, last year’s German Grand Prix took place at Hockenheim, the famous old venue held its last race in 2011. It is undoubtedly home favourites Mercedes’ first realistic chance to claim a home win as a team owner in nearly half a century.

Free Practice 1 saw Mercedes topping the time sheets, with Lewis Hamilton first and Nico Rosberg 2nd.

Vettel for Red Bull Racing may have topped free practice 2, but Rosberg was again 2nd for Mercedes AMG. Will Rosberg continue his winning streak now that he has 2 wins under his belt this season? His last win was at Silverstone last week and the other was at Monaco.

In 2011, Mark Webber took pole position at Nurburgring. He had to fight off a threat from Hamilton’s McLaren. They occupied the front row of the grid while the current reigning champion Sebastian Vettel was knocked off from the front row for the first time that year and had to start third, on the 2nd row of the grid.

Mercedes’ Rosberg would love to claim his first German pole position in front of his home crowd while triple World Champion Vettel would love to take his 40th pole and increase his lead in the drivers’ championship come Sunday.

Hamilton is also looking very strong with one pole at the Chinese GP this year. But it still remains to be seen if Webber or Fernando Alonso can claim their first pole of the 2013 F1 season as well.

It is all waiting to happen at the German GP. Let’s hope it is half as exciting as the British GP.
