It’s been sometime since a Williams has been been on front row of the grid, last being Nico Hulkenberg‘s stunning pole position in Brazil 2010. Pastor Maldonado‘s second place in Qualifying came as breath of fresh air for the team who have worked very hard preparing for this season in the factory and during pre-season tests.
Pastor Maldonado and the Williams engineers are cautiously optimistic for tomorrow’s race as they feel that their car is consistent over long runs and has good race pace.
Clearly the hard work done by the team at the factory and during Mugello tests paid dividends as Pastor Maldonado had been quick throughout the weekend. The Second place also brings in welcome boost for the Williams team as they had a nightmare of a season last year with just four points.
While Pastor drove brilliantly throughout the qualifying session, his team mate Bruno Senna couldn’t even make it into q2 after being stuck in traffic on his fastest lap. But Bruno’s lap still looked good enough to get him into q2 until his spin which ended all his hopes to get into next leg of qualifying session. Still Bruno is hoping to score some points as he has scored points starting from back of the grid several times.
Now, the team is fully focused on tomorrow’s race and a podium finish can be a good present for Frank Williams, who recently celebrated his 70th Birthday.
