With the arrival of Kimi Raikkonen next year, one expects Ferrari to become a stronger team than they already are. However, given their contrasting personalities and the fact that neither Fernando Alonso nor Raikkonen will like to play second fiddle, many believe that their pairing has a bigger chance of backfiring.
Tom Cary of The Daily Telegraph wrote:
’2014 at the Scuderia could resemble a season of Game of Thrones; a bloody battle for supremacy between a hot-headed Spaniard and a cold-blooded Finn, a song of fire and ice cream.’
Cary believes that two drivers from the same team in the title hunt is not the best idea and Ferrari might regret their decision. He further wrote:
‘Will Ferrari regret breaking with tradition and employing two No 1s? Their president Luca di Montezemolo said only last year, when playing down reports of a move for Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel, that he did not like to have “two roosters in the same henhouse”. He has that now.’
Jonthan McEvoy of Daily Mail thinks it won’t go down well with Alonso if Raikkonen outperforms him.
‘Most observers would expect Alonso to prevail over the course of a season, but wait for the fireworks if Raikkonen betters him more than once in a while,’ wrote McEvoy.
Paul Weaver of The Guardian feels that Ferrari might face the same kind of problem McLaren faced with Alonso and Hamilton.
He wrote: ‘Alonso found it difficult to share the limelight with [Lewis] Hamilton at McLaren. Will he find it easier with Raikkonen? Probably not.’
