The Durban Super Giants (DSG) and the Pretoria Capitals (PC) are set to battle it out in the second match of SA20 2025 on Friday, January 10, at Kingsmead in Durban.
The Durban Super Giants were the runners-up in the previous edition of the SA20, with a promising league campaign undone by a sub-par outing in the final, where they were completely overwhelmed by the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Nevertheless, they have assembled a strong unit this season and will look to go one step higher and lift the title.
Meanwhile, the Pretoria Capitals will look to start this season on a positive note after a disappointing fifth-place finish last time. Under the leadership of Wayne Parnell, they'll look to play an attacking and free-flowing brand of cricket that has gotten them a fair bit of success thus far.
This should be an interesting match-up between two quality sides. Let's look at a few differential picks who could turn the game around for their Dream11 backers.
#3 Senuran Muthuswamy (ALL) (PC)
Left-arm spinner and bowling all-rounder Senuran Muthuswamy is likely to be the first-choice spinner for the Pretoria Capitals this season. The Durban-born Muthuswamy is one of the most experienced campaigners in this Pretoria side with plenty of first-class and limited-overs domestic appearances to his name, in addition to four Test caps.
Set to bat at No.7 in a batting lineup prone to collapses and bowl his full quota of four overs, it's very surprising why more Dream11 players haven't included Muthuswamy in their teams, considering his high potential for points. He also has plenty of experience playing in Durban, and with the wicket at Kingsmead likely to assist spinners, he could haul big in this fixture.
Muthuswamy is a quality Dream11 differential for this one.
#2 Matthew Breetzke (WK) (DSG)
While his international career hasn't gotten off to the best start, there's no doubt that Matthew Breetzke is one of the most talented and promising cricketers in this South African setup. The attacking top-order batter who can also keep wickets was pivotal in DSG's successful campaign in the previous edition of the SA20.
He was the third-highest run-scorer of the season, scoring 416 runs in 13 matches at a solid strike rate of 135.50. He also loves batting at this venue and has a terrific record there. In six T20s at Durban, Breetzke has smashed 286 runs, averaging 57.2 at a strike rate of 154.6.
Despite those numbers, he still has single-digit ownership among Dream11 players going into this fixture and could prove to be a powerful differential option.
#1 Junior Dala (BOWL) (DSG)
Junior Dala should take care of the death-bowling duties for Durban as he did so impressively last season. Despite playing only five matches, Dala made quite an impact in the Supergiants' campaign, picking up 13 wickets at a terrific bowling average of 13.77.
In his last fixture at this ground, he picked up a five-wicket haul against none other than the Pretoria Capitals. His 5/26 in four overs proved crucial in DSG's eight-run win over the Capitals. While he can be expensive at times, Dala is a genuine wicket-taker and is Fantasy gold in the T20 format. He could prove to be a wonderful Dream11 differential pick in DSG's first match of the season.
