The Durban Super Giants (DSG) and the Pretoria Capitals (PC) lock horns in the second match of SA20 2025 on Friday, January 10, at Kingsmead in Durban.
After a disappointing inaugural season, DSG put in some strong performances in the second edition of the SA20, making it to the finals after comfortably edging out every team except eventual champions Sunrisers Eastern Cape. They appear to have all bases covered this time around as well, with Heinrich Klaasen, Quinton de Kock, Noor Ahmad, and captain Keshav Maharaj set to be their key players.
The Pretoria Capitals, who topped the points table in the first season of the SA20, had a disappointing second campaign, finishing fifth and failing to qualify for the playoffs. Led by Wayne Parnell, the Capitals will look to start strongly and register an away win, but it could be easier said than done for them, as they're currently undergoing an injury crisis.
Let's look at three players who would make ideal captaincy picks on Dream11 for this fixture.
#3 Wayne Parnell (ALL) (PC)
Pretoria Capitals' captain and bowling all-rounder Wayne Parnell is a solid Dream11 captaincy choice for this fixture. Parnell finished SA20 2024 with 14 wickets in eight matches with a great bowling SR, albeit at a very expensive economy rate of over 10.
However, that matters very little in the larger context because of the Dream11 points system. He's also a more than handy lower-order batter who could add some useful runs and increase his point-scoring potential through this avenue.
With the Capitals' bowling lineup looking a bit shaky and with some injury concerns, Parnell will shoulder the responsibility of bowling the tough overs at the death, increasing his chances of picking up wickets.
Expect him to produce some sizeable Dream11 hauls through this tournament.
#2 Will Jacks (BAT) (PC)
Will Jacks is one of the world's most highly sought-after T20 players, for good reason. The destructive opening batter and off-spinner can change the game single-handedly on his day and he has been a valuable asset to the Capitals in the SA20.
However, Jacks did struggle with the bat last season, making only 245 runs in ten matches, averaging only 27.22, but at a terrific strike rate of 180.14. He was way more impactful with the ball, chipping in with six wickets at a solid economy rate of 6.43.
While the wicket at Durban won't be easy to bat on, Jacks' multiple routes to points and his reputation as a T20 cricketer make him a no-brainer for Dream11 captaincy.
#1 Heinrich Klaasen (WK) (DSG)
Heinrich Klaasen is arguably the best batter in T20 cricket right now and for good reason. He absolutely lit up the SA20 last season with his powerful batting and was a major reason for the Durban Supergiants storming their way to the final.
The Proteas keeper-batter smashed 447 runs in 13 matches, averaging 40.63, and scoring at a mind-boggling strike rate of 207.90.
Set to come in at No. 4, Klaasen should be the powerhouse and engine of this Durban batting lineup and he could cash in against what looks like a beleaguered Pretoria bowling lineup.
While he's unlikely to take the gloves with Quinton de Kock present, Klaasen is a prominent figure on the field and could also add value with his contributions as a fielder, as evidenced by his joint-topping the 'Most Catches Taken' stat in SA20 2024.
Klaasen is a shoo-in for Dream11 captaincy in any game in white-ball cricket, and especially so for this fixture.
