After the men's action, its the time for the women of India and New Zealand to square off, at the Bay Oval in the second ODI for their ongoing series. After a comprehensive nine-wicket win, courtesy of a Smriti Mandhana hundred, the Indian women will be looking to replicate their male colleagues with another win to take a 2-0 lead in the series.
New Zealand, on the other hand, were quite disappointing with bat and ball and are definitely a much better side than their dismal showing in the first ODI. The likes of Amy Satterthwaite and Suzie Bates are amongst the best players in the world and with the series deficit, the second ODI is sure to be a very competitive match between two very good teams filled with quality.
Teams to choose from:
India Women:
Mithali Raj (captain), Punam Raut, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Tanya Bhatia (wk), Mona Meshram, Ekta Bist, Mansi Joshi, Dayalan Hemlatha, Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Jhulan Goswami, Shikha Pandey.
NZ Women:
Sophie Devine, Suzie Bates, Amy Satterthwaite (C), Lauren Down, Katie Perkins, Amelia Kerr, Bernadine Bezuidenhout (WK), Maddy Green, Hannah Rowe, Leigh Kasperek, Anna Peterson, Lea Tahuhu, Hannah Rowe and Holly Huddlestone.
Playing XI Updates:
Ind Women:
After a brilliant all-round performance in Napier, India shouldn't make any changes to the triumphant side. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues were at their best at the top of the order and with the likes of Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur in the middle order, India are well prepared to take on another New Zealand assault. Their spin attack led by Poonam Yadav was also very impressive with none of the NZ Women being able to rotate strike against them.
Possible XI: Jemimah, Smriti, Mithali(C), Harmanpreet, Deepti, Taniya(WK), Hemalatha, Shikha, Jhulan, Ekta and Poonam.
NZ Women:
Apart from Amelia Kerr, the other women had a day to forget with none of the individuals contributing to the cause of the team. If they are to get a result out of the second ODI, better performances from senior players, such as Lea Tahuhu, Amy Satterthwaite and Sophie Devine are expected. Anna Peterson could come on for Hannah Rowe, but with the presence of Kerr and Kasperek, it is highly unlikely.
Possible XI: Bates, Devine, Down, Satterthwaite (C), Kerr, Green, Bernadine(WK), Kasperek, Rowe, Tahuhu and Huddlestone.
Fantasy Tips and Suggestions:
Wicket-keeper: With both keepers equally talented and batting lower down the order, it comes down to their ability behind the wickets where Taniya Bhatia edges out Bernadine Bezuidenhout, although Bernadine isn't a bad option as well.
Batsmen: Smriti Mandhana was ominous in the first ODI and could have another fruitful outing with the pitch being more suitable to the batters. Mithali Raj and Amy Satterthwaite are very experienced in this format and are amongst the best in history as well. Both of them along with Suzie Bates are very handy picks to go along with. Harmanpreet Kaur's finishing abilities and handy off-spin also make her a viable option.
All-rounders: Amelia Kerr is one of the most promising all-rounders in the world right now and with a double hundred to her name as well, she is an invaluable selection to the fantasy team. Along with her, Sophie Devine and Deepti Sharma are also good options with their all-round abilities.
Bowlers: Poonam Yadav was brilliant in the previous match and has been the go-to bowler for Mithali Raj in the recent past. Poonam along with Kasperek are must haves in the fantasy side. Along with the aforementioned duo, Lea Tahuhu and Ekta Bisht are also viable options to go for.
Captain: Mithali Raj and Amy Satterthwaite are very experienced players and have the ability to decide the outcome of the match as well. While there have been claims on Mithali's scoring rate, she is still one of the best batters in the world. Amelia Kerr is also a very good option with the youngster batting in the middle order and with a full quota of aggressive bowling in store for her.
Fantasy Suggestion #1: Taniya Bhatia (WK), Mithali Raj, Suzie Bates, Amy Satterthwaite, Smriti Mandhana, Shikha Pandey, Amelia Kerr, Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav, Leigh Kasperek and Lea Tahuhu. Captain: Mithali Raj.
