MI Cape Town (MICT) and the Paarl Royals (PR) lock horns in the 6th match of SA20 2025 on Monday, January 13, at Newlands in Cape Town.
This is the first home match for MICT in SA20 2025 and they enter this fixture on the back of a disappointing six-run defeat (DLS method) against the Joburg Super Kings (JSK) in a rain-marred encounter. Their top order had yet another off-day, with the pair of George Linde and Delano Potgieter rescuing them once more. However, their bowlers couldn't strike like they did against the Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC), allowing the JSK batters to score enough runs to sneak to a win.
Meanwhile, the Paarl Royals stunned defending champions SEC with a dominant nine-wicket win on Saturday courtesy a magnificent 51-ball 97 from 18-year-old wicketkeeper-batter Lhuan-dre Pretorius.
This should be an exciting clash between two teams looking for their second win of the season. Let's look at three players who'd be good Dream11 captaincy options in this fixture.
#3 Kwena Maphaka (BOWL) (PR)
Paarl Royals' pace ace Kwena Maphaka could be a smart left-field Dream11 captaincy option in this fixture. The 18-year-old left-arm pacer made a solid SA20 debut against SEC with a terrific spell at the death, finishing with figures of 2/35.
He bowled two overs in the powerplay with the new ball and one at the death, which is almost ideal for any fast bowler in terms of wicket-taking potential. MI Cape Town have also looked really shaky facing the new ball, as evidenced by their poor starts in both their opening fixtures.
While it is a risky option, Maphaka's searing pace should cause the MICT batters plenty of problems and he's someone worth taking a punt on as a differential captain.
#2 Delano Potgieter (ALL) (MICT)
Delano Potgieter has been the surprise package of the SA20 so far, impressing with both the bat and the ball in both of MICT's matches so far. He followed up his 12-ball 25 and five-wicket haul against SEC in the first match with another terrific outing against JSK, this time with the bat.
With the team struggling at 75/6 in the 14th over, Potgieter stitched together an unbeaten 65-run stand with George Linde, scoring 44 runs off just 22 balls to keep his side in the game. While he couldn't replicate the same form with the ball, he's definitely turning into a powerful all-rounder.
Expect him to be as impactful in this fixture as he was in earlier outings, making him a solid Dream11 captaincy choice.
#1 George Linde (ALL) (MICT)
George Linde has quickly become one of South Africa's best limited-overs all-rounders, performing well in all departments both in international and franchise cricket. The vastly experienced Linde has played 196 T20s, scoring more than 2000 runs and picking up 176 wickets in the process.
He has slotted in at No. 6 for MI Cape Town, and is currently their highest run-getter this season, scoring 71 runs at a decent strike rate of 136.54, and is yet to be dismissed. He's also very likely to bowl his full quota of overs with the ball on a Newlands wicket that offers some help to the spinners, especially in the first innings.
A reliable and consistent option, Linde should be the captaincy favorite for many Dream11 players in this fixture.
