The main aim of football is to score goals and these 10 forwards this season have definitely scored plenty of them. Unsurprisingly, the superstars from la Liga are well represented in the top 10 while a couple of star forwards from the Premier League make the cut as well.
Most of the players on this list have not only scored plenty of goals, they have also created a number of chances for their other team-mates and are a constant threat for opposition defences.
Without much ado, let us take a look at the 10 best forwards in football this season:
#10 Ciro Immobile (Lazio)
Undoubtedly Italy's best striker at the moment, Ciro Immobile has almost single-handedly dragged Lazio into contention for a UEFA Champions League spot with his incredible goalscoring form this season.
The top scorer in the league with 24 goals in 25 appearances, the former Dortmund man has rediscovered his best form and has fooled the tactically astute defences in the Serie A with his intelligent runs and clever finishing.
Known for working hard throughout the match, Immobile has also assisted a further 8 goals this season and his manager, Simone Inzaghi, will be hoping that the 28-year-old striker continues his incredible form until the end of the season.
What a season this man is having!
#9 Luis Suarez (Barcelona)
Luis Suarez might have started the season slowly by his own high standards, but he has shown what he is capable of in the last few matches. Struggling with form and fitness at the beginning, the Uruguayan sharpshooter is back to his best, terrorising opposing defences once again.
Suarez’s contributions are not only restricted to the attacking side of the pitch. Always a team player, the Uruguayan can often be seen flying into tackles and working hard for the team when Barcelona relinquish possession.
Having scored 21 goals in 25 matches in La Liga, the 31-year-old striker is already the second highest goalscorer in the league (only behind Lionel Messi). With plenty of important matches coming up for Barcelona, Suarez will be keen to continue his good form and go fit and firing into the 2018 World Cup.
#8 Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)
One of the Premier League's greatest ever strikers, Sergio Aguero for some reason never seems to get the attention he deserves. While the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva have been absolutely magnificent this season, Aguero has ruthlessly plundered goals as well having scored 21 in 24 league appearances.
While Pep Guardiola might have rotated him with Gabriel Jesus at the beginning of the season, an unfortunate injury to the Brazilian saw Aguero start a number of games consecutively for City and the Argentine has shown just how lethal he can be in front of goal when given the chance.
Arguably Manchester City's greatest ever player, Sergio Aguero will be keen on ending the season with more silverware and goals after already winning the English League Cup this season.
#7 Edinson Cavani (Paris Saint-Germain)
Nipping in ahead of his countryman Luis Suarez on this list, Edinson Cavani has been in blistering form for Paris Saint-Germain this season. Forming a fearsome trio along with the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, the Uruguayan has arguably taken his game to new heights in this campaign.
Often maligned for missing plenty of extremely presentable chances, Edinson Cavani has been answering his haters by plundering goals left, right and centre. Ever since the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Manchester United, Cavani has thrived playing in the centre-forward position he covets and has scored an incredible 24 goals in 25 league games this season.
A quick, strong, opportunistic and prolific forward with good technique, the Uruguayan forward is known for his tireless work-rate and Unai Emery will be counting him on to deliver at the big stage.
#6 Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich)
One of the best strikers in the world, Robert Lewandowski has consistently shown what a true world class goalscorer he is with his performances for Bayern Munich in the past few seasons. Bayern Munich is a team full of superstars, but Lewandowski is arguably their biggest trump card.
Capable of scoring goals from any angle, Lewandoski is quite simply a complete striker as he is comfortable with both his right and left foot and is also extremely competitive and effective in the air.
Having scored over 40 goals in both 2015/16 and 2016/17 campaigns, the Polish superstar is well on his way to cross that mark once again this season having already scored 32 goals.
Lewandowski is miles ahead in the race to win the Bundesliga golden boot this season and Heynckes will be hoping that the prolific striker continues his good form in the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.
#5 Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain)
The world's most expensive player, Neymar, has had an excellent start to his PSG career. Having controversially made the move from Barcelona, the Brazilian superstar settled in seamlessly at Ligue 1 and formed a devastating trio with Mbappe and Cavani.
In fact, Ligue 1, has at times, simply looked too easy for the 26-year-old magician as he has tricked and dribbled past his opponents with ridiculous ease. His numbers this season have been simply phenomenal.
In 30 appearances for PSG, Neymar has scored an incredible 28 goals and further assisted 16 more. However, he failed to score in the all-important match against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. and with him now suffering a serious injury, Neymar will be desperate to get fit for the 2018 World Cup.
#4 Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur)
Harry Kane has proved all his critics wrong with his wonderful performances in the last few seasons.
Initially dismissed as a one season wonder, Kane has time and again shown that he is among the elite forwards of world football with his stunning performances for Tottenham Hotspur so much so that Pep Guardiola even called Spurs 'that Harry Kane team' in a press conference last year.
Unsurprisingly, Kane has been linked with a number of top European clubs, but the England international himself looked forward to playing in Tottenham's new stadium next season. Speaking in a recent interview, the 24-year-old striker said:
“I remember sitting at White Hart Lane as a fan growing up and watching Tottenham play so to now be part of the team moving into this new stadium is really exciting,” said Kane.
“I can’t wait to see a load of fans inside and what that will look like. I can’t wait to be out there scoring some goals. To think we’re not that far away now is incredible.”
England's greatest hope at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Harry Kane will be hoping to recover soon from an ankle injury and get back to scoring goals in every way possible.
#3 Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid)
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are undoubtedly the two greatest footballers of our generation. A fierce determination to be the best, Ronaldo with his grit and determination along with his supreme talent has become the single most recognisable name in world football today.
Ever since his move to Real Madrid, his goalscoring exploits have been simply mind-boggling. Be it scoring the last penalty in a UEFA Champions League final penalty shoot-out or scoring a crucial goal in the Euro 2016 semi-final, Ronaldo has time and again stepped up when it has mattered the most and shown the world what he is capable of.
After having started this season slowly compared to his extremely high standards, Ronaldo has once again shown the world why he is a 5 time Ballon d'Or winner with his stunning performances ever since the start of 2018.
Scoring goals for fun now, the Portuguese superstar seems determined to help Real win an unprecedented third UEFA Champions League title.
Also, having caught up in the Pichichi race, it will come as no surprise if Ronaldo finishes this season strongly and jumps 2 places higher in this list by the time the 2017/18 season comes to an end.
#2 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Mohamed Salah has undoubtedly been the best signing of this season. The Liverpool forward has surprised everyone with the impact he has had and is showing no signs of slowing down. Playing as a winger, it is astonishing that the Egyptian is tied with Harry Kane for the Golden Boot.
Cutting in from the right-hand side, the left-footed winger has scored all types of goals and defenders have struggled to cope with his quick pace, tricky feet and insane dribbling skills. Salah's stats this season are honestly incredible. Having scored 31 goals in 39 appearances so far, the 25-year-old superstar has also further assisted 9 goals.
With Liverpool fighting for a top 4 position in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals coming up, Jurgen Klopp will be hoping that the former Chelsea man continues his electric form and keeps scoring and setting up goals until the end of the season.
#1 Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Lionel Messi has been at his magical best this season. A lot of people feared for Barcelona when Neymar departed the club and joined PSG, but people forgot that they still had the Argentine magician with them. Messi this season, has been absolutely brilliant.
Playing on the right or through the centre this season, Messi is currently on top of the La Liga scoring charts. He has also mastered the art of taking free-kicks and has already scored plenty of wonderful free-kick goals this season.
With 33 goals and 13 assists in 40 matches, the Barcelona legend just edges Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo as the best forward in world football this season.
A goalscorer and playmaker rolled into one, Messi will be hoping to guide Barcelona to another stunning treble this season.
Honourable mentions: Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Jonas Oliviera, Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann
