#7 Messi scores his 500th goal in loss against Valencia
The 2-1 Clasico loss in April was a bad one for Barcelona as they went on to lose the next few matches against Real Sociedad as well as Atletico Madrid, failing to defend their Champions League crown. The game against Valencia was important to say the least as both the Madrid clubs were sensing an opportunity to pounce on any Barcelona draw or defeat.
But it was another poor display by the Blaugrana as they lost the game 2-1 making it four defeats in five games, with Atletico Madrid recovering to become level on points and Real just one behind.
But there was a silver lining of course, as Lionel Messi ended his personal goal drought of 515 minutes to score his 500th career goal. ‘La Pulga’ was the only bright spot in the game trying to get his team back to the level they belong at.
In addition to his 500 goals, Messi has also won an unprecedented five Ballon d’Ors and is also the club’s all time top scorer, as well as being La Liga’s all time top scorer. Not bad, those figures.
