#3 The Manchester Derby - Manchester City vs Manchester United

There are several famous derbies in England like the North-London Derby, the Merseyside derby and the Tyne-Wear derby. However, the Manchester derby has come to fore in recent years.

This particular derby doesn’t have the deeprooted history of the other derbies in this list but there is enough evidence in the last decade to know how bigger this rivalry could get over in the coming years.

For many years, the derby was dominated by the more successful Manchester United but following Manchester City’s takeover in 2008, there have been some memorable clashes. The first of which was United’s 4-3 win over City deep into extra time in 2009.

The peak of the rivalry was during the 2011/12 season when City defeated United 6-1 to inflict United’s biggest defeat at Old Trafford in 56 years. City also clinched the league title on goal difference from United in the final minute of the season in dramatic fashion.

The two clubs are presently managed by Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola. The managers have a history between them and this has added to the derby’s intensity.
