#7 Diego Costa – Chelsea – 20.16%
Antonio Conte is a shrewd man. Ignoring all the problems that Diego Costa’s antics cause on the pitch as well as in the dressing room, the Italian has a clear reason why he wants to get rid of the Spanish striker. Costa’s conversion rate is in a downward trend.
In the 2016/17 season, excluding penalties, Costa only scored 1 more goal that in his first season at the club – but took a staggering 35 shots more! The increase in his shot’s blocked amount also points to the striker taking longer to get his shot off – which is a death knell for a frontman, especially one that is 28 years old and declining physically.
With an overall conversion rate of 20.16%, you can see why Atletico Madrid want to sign him, but putting a striker on a downward slope out to pasture for 6 months seems like a recipe for disaster.
