James signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid for €75 million

Attacking midfielder James Rodríguez is currently signed to Bayern Munich. After signing to the club he had a slow start to his Bayern career, mainly due to an injury in pre-season. He left AS Monaco for Real Madrid in July 2014. He is quite often referred as the successor to his fellow citizen Carlos Valderrama and regarded as one of the best players of his generation.

In a post-match interview during the 2014 World Cup, James stated his "admiration", "passion" and "love" and for Real Madrid. On 22nd July 2014, the Colombian signed a six-year contract with Real Madrid for £71million.

When Madrid won the 2016–17 La Liga he appeared 22-times. Also, he made six appearances when Madrid won the 2016–17 UEFA Champions League.

James failed to gain enough playing time under Zidane despite scoring 11 goals and his techniques on the field, which lead him to request for a loan transfer for more playing time.

He won a European Super Cup, a FIFA Club World Cup, Golden Boot, and a Champions League trophy.
