Arsenal were not getting dominated on the pitch but in the transfer market as well.

Arsenal went into the match after one of their worst transfer window's. Cesc Fabregas left the club for his boyhood club FC Barcelona and Samir Nasri along with Gael Clichy joined Manchester City. It was the first time Arsenal conceded 8 goals since 1896.

A Wayne Rooney's hattrick, two sensational long-range curlers from Ashely Young and one apiece from Danny Welbeck, Ji Sung Park and Nani completed the humiliation for their arch-rivals. Robin Van Persie scored one and missed a penalty which could have turned the game around for the Gunners.

It was during this time that Arsenal's rivals not only dominated them on the pitch but they were also getting bullied in the transfer market. And these two factors were a huge source of frustration for Arsenal fans.

Despite having nearly £70 million transfer kitty Wenger did not sign any big household names to replace his outgoing stars.
