#3 Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane signed for Liverpool from Southampton in 2016 for a fee of close to €40 million. Mane was crucial in Liverpool’s successful Champions League and Premier League campaigns in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
Mane’s market value was €120 million but has now decreased to €80 million. The 29-year-old has been having a troublesome few seasons at Liverpool. Although Mane still works incredibly hard off the ball, he has been inefficient in front of goal on several occasions. It is clear that Mane’s impact at Liverpool isn’t like it once used to be.
Mane has eight goals and one assist this season. The Senegalese winger has been criticized for his questionable decision-making at times. Given the high standards Jurgen Klopp desires, Mane will need to step up once he returns from national duty at the AFCON. Liverpool are currently third in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea.
#2 Phillipe Coutinho
Philippe Coutinho’s big-money move to Barcelona has been an absolute disaster. He may not have won silverware with Liverpool, but Coutinho’s time at Anfield will be fondly remembered. The Brazilian signed for Blaugrana in 2018 for a fee close to €160 million. The midfielder’s career has taken a turn for the worse since the deal.
The mismanagement at Barcelona added to Coutinho’s woes and he was loaned out a year later to Bayern Munich. Barcelona fans will have bitter memories of Coutinho’s brace in the 8-2 mauling they suffered at the hands of Bayern. Coutinho’s market value of €60 million has now fallen sharply to just €18 million.
Coutinho recently made headlines when he made his Premier League return by completing a loan deal at Aston Villa. Fans will be eagerly waiting to see if Steven Gerrard includes the Brazilian in the starting eleven against Manchester United on Saturday.
#1 Eden Hazard
Widely regarded as one of the worst deals in football history, Eden Hazard’s time with Real Madrid has been forgettable. The 2014-15 Premier League Player of the Season is a shadow of his former self at Madrid. Eden Hazard was a monster at Chelsea, scoring 110 goals and providing 92 assists in 352 appearances across all competitions.
Hazard won two Premier League titles, two Europa League trophies, one FA Cup, and one League Cup with the Blues. Tormented by injuries ever since he moved to Madrid, Hazard has managed just five goals and 10 assists in 59 matches.
These are quite dreadful numbers given that Madrid paid a fee of around €100 million for him. Hazard’s value has dropped to €18 million from €60 million. The Belgian has only two assists in all competitions in 16 appearances for Madrid this season. It looks increasingly unlikely that Hazard will replicate the form he showed at Chelsea.
