#7 Mohamed Salah (Liverpool) | 58 goals
Mohamed Salah is the best player in world football right now. He looks untouchable, and is playing at an elite level.
Salah has been world-class for Liverpool since joining them from AS Roma in 2017 for nearly £38 million. The Egypt international is a terrifying mix of speed, quick feet and world-class finishing. Currently, he looks like he could single-handedly lead Liverpool to the league title.
The 29-year-old was one of Liverpool's better players last season, in what was a disappointing campaign for Jurgen Klopp's men. This season, he has made ten league appearances, scoring ten goals and providing six assists. He is already regarded as one of the best forwards to have played in the Premier League.
#6 Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) | 66 goals
Kylian Mbappe looks certain to leave Paris Saint-Germain next summer, but that has not affected his performances this season.
Mbappe will most likely be a Real Madrid player next season. With his contract with Paris Saint-Germain expiring, the France international could join any club on a free transfer next summer. However, despite the uncertainty around his future, he has been Paris Saint-Germain's best attacker this season.
Mbappe scored 27 Ligue 1 goals in 31 appearances last season, and has five in 11 games this time around. The 22-year-old has bounced back strongly after a poor Euro 2020 campaign, and has been the difference-maker for Paris Saint-Germain.
#5 Lionel Messi (Barcelona/ Paris Saint-Germain) | 67 goals
The greatest player to have played the game has not enjoyed a good start to the new season.
Lionel Messi completed a surprise move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer on a free transfer after his Barcelona contract expired. In a dysfunctional Barcelona side last season, Messi often papered over the cracks. In 35 La Liga appearances, the Argentina international scored 30 goals.
Messi would have enjoyed the summer a lot more, though. He captained Argentina to Copa America success, and was rightly named the Best Player of the tournament. The 34-year-old is yet to get going for his new club, though. In five Ligue 1 games, Messi is yet to find the net. He is one of the favourites to win this year's Ballon d'Or award, though.
#4 Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan / Chelsea) | 70 goals
Romelu Lukaku was used as a scapegoat during his time at Manchester United, with many holding him responsible for the club's failures.
Lukaku moved to Inter Milan in 2019 for nearly £67 million, and under Antonio Conte, he became one of the best strikers in the world. The Belgium international is highly intelligent, physically gifted and an excellent finisher. He departed Inter Milan with the nickname 'King of Milan' and a Serie A title.
Chelsea re-signed Lukaku for a club-record fee of £103.5 million this summer, and the striker has done well. In seven Premier League appearances, he has scored three goals. Lukaku's form took a dip in recent weeks, and he is currently out injured, though.
