Portugal, an intriguing mix of youth and experience
On paper, Portugal have a great mix of youth and experience heading into these Euros. Having progressed to the latter stages of international tournaments with squads with perhaps less caliber than the one they have right now, there’s no telling how far they can go this time.
With Cristiano Ronaldo leading the line, expect him to sniff out goal-scoring opportunities consistently, and a rear guard with Jose Fonte, Pepe and the experienced Ricardo Carvalho fighting it out for two positions in the centre of defense, Portugal will form a solid unit. The real doubts are in midfield, the area that Portugal have a long list of immensely talented players. Players like Renato Sanches and Andre Gomes might not even make the starting 11, such is the midfield talent the Portuguese will have on display. Making the most of the talent they have in their squad though is a tough job that Fernando Santos has on his hands.
