13 year-old Fuseina Mumuni becomes youngest ever player to feature in a World Cup

13-year old Ghanaian Fuseina Mumuni is all set to write her name into the record books as she arrives at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup as the youngest player ever to take part in the competition.

At 13, Fuseina, is living her dream of playing football at the top level.

“When I started playing football, I used to see players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and [David] Beckham] on TV. I wanted to be like them whenever I played. I was just 9 years old,” Fuseina said after a Black Maidens training session ahead of Ghana’s group opener against Korea DPR.

“I also look up to Marta [Brazilian soccer star who has won five straight FIFA Player of the Year Awards]. I want to develop and be like them. Now, I have the chance to play at the World Cup and I hope it goes well,” the teenager added.

Despite her young age, the attacker does not seem to be short on confidence and believes in her abilities to do well at the tournament thereby helping her team to achieve success.

“I like to dribble if I can and shoot. But I play with my colleagues, who help me and I need to help them too,” Fuseina said.
