A 13 year old Mumbai lad, who goes by the name, Uzair Ansari, impressed ex Indian footballer Baichung Bhutia with his impeccable footballing skills during a friendly match between a junior, and a senior team led by Bhutia himself at the Priyadarshini park, Nepean Sea Road in Mumbai.
Uzair, a student of St.Ignatius school was participating in the inaugural edition of the Baichung Bhutia Championship Cup inter-school football at Mumbai. Unfortunately his school team got knocked out in the quarter final stages but luckily for him, he got himself a one year scholarship to train at the Baichung Bhutia Football Schools (BBFS) which is set to be launched in Mumbai the next month.
The youngster, who plays as a defender managed to score a brace in the 2-2 friendly match catching the former Indian captain’s eye. His sheer fearless approach on the field has supposedly got Bhutia interested. Bhutia in an interview said that Uzair has a huge potential and that he was very happy that he would be able to help him(Uzair) groom. Bhutia later also stated that there was no dearth of talent in India and that its up to them to maintain and groom such talents.
Out of the 15 players who are supposed to get their scholarships, Uzair was the first one to get it. The Madanpura resident was more than excited to play against his hero and was even more thrilled when he managed to dribble past Bhutia in one occasion.
