As many as 19 current Indian footballers are attending an AFC C license coaching course in Goa, Sportskeeda can reveal.
The Football Players Association of India (FPAI) took the initiative of involving current players in the course, which will continue till June 21.
The course instructor is India goalkeeping coach Marcus Pacheco and it is taking place at the Duler Stadium in Mapusa, Goa.
18 of those 19 players featured in the I-League last season including current India internationals like Gouramangi Singh, Nirmal Chettri, Arata Izumi, Clifford Miranda and Denzil Franco. Former I-League players like K Ajayan, Peter Siddique, Noel Wilson and Jatin Singh Bisht are also among the participants.
“This is the best possible way for players to spend the off season. We intend to involve them in two coaching courses in a calendar year,” FPAI general manager Cyrus Confectioner told Sportskeeda.
It is quite common for players’ associations around the world to help current players in getting coaching education during the season break and FPAI are also trying to achieve something similar so that the players can prepare early for life after retirement.
Back in the summer of 2012, the FPAI had arranged for the participation of Gouramangi and Alvito D’Cunha in attending the level 2 coaching license course conducted by the English PFA.
